Rewind Trauma therapy in Shrewsbury and Welshpool

Closure without disclosure

A trauma focused approach to support you when you need it.

What Rewind therapy is

Rewind therapy is a trauma focused technique to support the reduction of both psychological and emotional distress caused by traumatic experiences.

It is considered a visual kinasthetic dissociation technique that invites you to visualise the experience and then dissociate from it.

Rewind typically involves one double length session followed by a single top up session although additional sessions are available. This makes the process not only personally empowering but also financially viable.

The technique does not require repetitive disclosure of the trauma experienced.

It can be used for singular or collective experiences.

Rewind therapy aims to:

  • Eliminate involuntary recall
  • Overcome avoidant behaviours
  • Remove unhealthy coping mechanisms
  • Restore life re-integration
  • Reduce the amygdala response and strengthen the role of the PFT

Rewind therapy is best used as part of wider therapeutic support and having an already established relationship from earlier sessions can reduce the anxiety of focusing on your trauma. But it can be delivered as a stand alone intervention if desired.

Please note that no treatment is 100% guaranteed.

how trauma effects us

  • Poor sleep
  • Physical pain
  • Immune functions compromised
  • Hormonal change
  • Brain fog
  • memory changes
  • Neurological changes
  • Relational difficulties

a little neuroscience

Trauma occurs when our brain becomes overwhelmed and cannot process the experience completely.

Intense stress can effect the prefrontal cortex, which ordinarily performs rational and calming functions. This takes time and acute threat can reduce this availability. When this happens our alarm system, the amygdala, can take over, not only co-ordinating our initial response but our future ones based on familiar contexts. To keep us safe we begin to respond to new situations as though they too represent danger.

the benefits of non disclosure

By disclosing only what you feel comfortable to share we can reduce the risk of retraumatisation, reducing client fears that may prevent reaching out for support in the first place.

What else can Rewind therapy help with?

Rewind is not just for processing traumatic experiences. In fact it has benefits for a number of other conditions and concerns clients bring to the therapy room, including;

  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • CPTSD
  • OCD
  • Phobias
  • Anxiety
  • Overwhelm
